IRRIGATION

Total geographical area of the State	55.67 lakh ha.
Total culturable area of the State	5.83 lakh ha.
Area identified under Major/Medium Irrigatrion projects	0.50 lakh ha.
Area identified under Minor irrigation schemes	2.85 lakh ha.
Total identified area	3.35 lakh ha.

There are 2217 completed irrigation schemes in the State out of which Med Irrg 4, FIS 1085, LIS 558 and Tubewell 570.

Upto the end of March, 2011, an area of 2.43 lakh hect. of land has been provided with irrigation facilities, the details of which are as under:-

ACCELERATED IRRIGATION BENEFIT PROGRAMME (AIBP)

Persistent efforts have been made to get approval of Govt. of India for Minor Irrigation projects under AIBP for expeditious arrangements of funds, as 75% expenditure is borne by the G.O.I. Under this programme 1 major irrigation Project Shahnehar and 3 other medium irrigation projects Sidhata ,Anandpur Hydel channel and Belh Vally has also been got approved under AIBP.Accordingly, 263 schemes have been approved from GOI for amounting to Rs. 183.93 cr. in diffrent Shelf.

A new shelf of about 165 MIS with an estimated cost of Rs. 182 crore to provide the irrigation facilities to 15350 hectare CCA is being submitted to Govt. of India for approval/Funding under AIBP for the year 2009-10.
